New Year's fun
How redneck's keep it classy...
New year, new you
I'm not one for resolutions but I find it necessary to try to make positive changes and promises that are worth keeping. Now that Christmas has passed and my oven can finally get a rest from all the baking, it's time to make use of my gym membership again and dust off the ol' treadmill to work off those cookies.Good luck on your resolutions or healthy life changes. Happy New Year to all!
Plane panic
At first I was okay with it. I was so tired that I just passed out. But 2 hours later when I woke up to find we were still sitting there without any air on I was one pregnant lady away from having a panic attack until we finally started moving.
It could have been worse, I suppose, I could be stuck in Jersey.
The Week After Christmas
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my boyfriend's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---
I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"
So--away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
"Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!
Not so sleepless in Seattle
Stay safe on the roads. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Baby it's cold outside
Being in the cold makes me realize how much better I feel. I think Florida's time is soon to be up. Plus, I really enjoy wearing my boots, coats, and scarves. I'm sure many people are saying they'd rather be wearing flip flops and tank tops though.
I guess the grass is always greener...
Stay warm out there!
Dear Neighbors...
The light display was nice. The lawn nutcrackers, not so bad, but the assemblage of blimps has got to be tamed. Plus, isn't is a bit of a hassle to have to inflate those things every night?
Maybe next year you'll consider revising your chose of holiday displays. I'd be glad to help.
Merry Christmas!
Dogs are better than boyfriends
This I believe, dogs are better than boyfriends. Granted, they may not be able to buy that diamond necklace or take me out to dinner at a fancy restaurant or that "other stuff"
boyfriends do, but other than that they top the list.
Both dogs and boyfriends require a lot of attention. With dogs, however, all I have to do is throw a toy and wait for them to bring it back. After awhile, the dog will tire or find the need to totally destroy that toy which eliminates me from having to play with them any longer. A dog wants me to stroke their belly or back; a boyfriend wants me to stroke his ego.
Dogs seem to have no sense of time either. They are ecstatic to see me every time I walk through the door. Every time I leave the house, even if just for a minute or two, my little Chihuahua, Lola, acts as though she has not seen me in days. She runs to the door, wags her tail and jumps up and all around me. I still may not get that warm of a welcome even if I really have not seen my boyfriend for days.
My dog will never hold a grudge against me or stay mad at me for longer than a second. I can yell at her for chewing on my favorite pair of shoes, and then five minutes later she will have her head in my lap. A boyfriend may choose to give me the silent treatment for a week, and expect an apology even though being the girlfriend I am more than likely right.
If I am having a bad day, Lola will lay down staring at me listening to every word I say without interrupting. A boyfriend will sit there looking as though he is listening, but when asked for his opinion or advice all that is returned is a blank and confused stare followed by a few “ums”.
There is no arguing over the remote or what to watch on TV with a dog. My dog will happily sit next to me even while watching a tear-jerking Lifetime movie. I can listen to whatever I want in the car. All a dog cares about is that the window is rolled down enough for them to hang out from. My dog will cuddle up to me in bed at night without stealing all the covers. She will even kiss me while having deadly morning breath. Dogs do not leave the toilet seat up or fail to change the toilet paper roll. I would much rather pick up a mess every so often from Lola instead of the daily laundry and dishes left in the sink by my boyfriend.
A dog’s love is unconditional. They will never break my heart or cheat on me. They will never even argue with me. The only war between me and my dog is tug-of-war. This I believe, dogs are better than boyfriends.
Have a nice fall...
I literrally was turning orange from eating everything pumpkin, not to mention becoming more 'round'. The only plus to that is pumpkin pie is the healthiest pie, but they probably mean 1 slice, not 1 pie. Oops.
I'm thinking now it's time for peppermint.
Turkey Time
There's been unfortunate events this year and ones to be grateful for. Either way, life happens, teaching us that things are out of our control.
Counts your blessing each and every day.
FYI: Anything of convienience is basically killing us
Is Your Microwave Making Your Fat?
Everyday a patient says to me, "I don't understand it. I diet but I can't lose weight!" Granted, this is a multi-faceted problem, but let's look at a modern convenience that may be leading Americans astray.First, understand that the body is remarkably accurate. It recognizes the difference between real food grown of this earth and fake foods concocted in the laboratory to resemble real foods (i.e. artificial sweeteners).
The body knows what to do with real food. It can break it down and turn it into usable energy. Any of this created energy that is not used is stored in our fat cells. Our bodies do not have the ability to break down fake foods and convert them into energy. All it can do is store it in our fat cells. The miraculous microwave oven turns real food into fake food by jumbling up the food's molecules.
Incorrect Configuration
A protein molecule gets scramble by a microwave. All the hydrogen, oxygen and carbon atoms are still present, but in the incorrect configuration. It's like a jigsaw puzzle put together incorrectly. You can't recognize the picture even though all the pieces are there. So the wonderful filet mignon that was just thawed out in the microwave may look, smell and taste like a steak once it's grilled, but it isn't recognized as food to the body. It gets stored as fat.Along with all the fad diets, throw out your microwave, eat breakfast, lunch by 1:00pm and fresh raw fruits and vegetables the rest of the day. Add some daily moderate exercise to this and you will lose weight as your metabolism changes. Your body won't think it is being starved of real food any longer.

Here he is, my new nephew
Congrats to the happy parents, Lauren and Charlie.
Sweet November...
But the good news is that instead of carving pumpkins, now we get to eat them, in pie form of course. My new favorite side dish is a yam. Very delish and healthy. My mom's makes them the best for Thanksgiving, with extra marshmallows. Delish but not healthy.
Hopefully November will be sweet to all of us this year.
Halloween
20 Years of Fear
I hope everyone has their pumpkins carved and outfits planned. Halloween is right around the corner.
